The Project is multi-institutional and is being managed by DODMA with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation implementing the water supply sub-component. The project will be implemented in three years between 1st January 2021 and 31st January 2024 and its development objective is to “support the recovery of livelihoods and infrastructure in flood and drought affected areas and strengthen capacity for flood and drought risk management”
MRDRMP is being implemented in the following districts; Nsanje, Chikwawa, Zomba, Mulanje, Machinga, Blantyre, Chiradzulu, Dedza, Mangochi, Mwanza, Neno, Thyolo, Balaka and Ntcheu districts.  The project is being financed by the World Bank at USD 10,300,000.00.

The main project activities include;
  • Construction of 154 boreholes in the following districts; Ntcheu (14 boreholes), Zomba (10 boreholes), Balaka (14 boreholes), Thylo (10 boreholes), Neno (12 boreholes), Mwanza (12 boreholes), Mangochi (20 boreholes), Dedza (10 boreholes), Chiradzulu (10 boreholes), Blantyre (20 boreholes), Machinga (15 boreholes), Nsanje (10 boreholes).
  • Rehabilitation and expansion of 4 gravity fed schemes in Thyolo (Sankhulani), Balaka (Mpira-Balaka) and Mzimba (Msaka and Champhira South).
  • Construction of 6 high yielding boreholes with purpose of increasing water quantity for Mpira-Balaka piped water supply scheme which covers parts of Balaka and Ntcheu.
