Post Cyclone Idai Emergency Recovery and Resilience Project (PCIERP)

Post Cyclone Idai Emergency Recovery and Resilience Project (PCIERP) is a project funded by the African Development Bank. Under this project, the department continues with the drilling of 200 boreholes in Nsanje (60), Chikwawa (50), Zomba (50), Mulanje (20), and Phalombe (20).

During the month of February 2023, the project completed the construction of all 200 boreholes in Nsanje (60 boreholes), Mulanje (20 boreholes), Zomba (50 boreholes) and Phalombe (20 boreholes) and Chikwawa (50). Theses boreholes are currently being used by the communities. The project also developed and reviewed designs for the 100 sanitation facilities and 5 solar powered boreholes in October 2022 which was submitted to AfDB for a no objection in November, 2022 awaiting response.

As for Community Based Management (CBM) trainings for the borehole committees, no progress was registered during the month under review due to lack of resources. Plans are to commence with trainings in Zomba (50), Chikwawa (50) and Nsanje (60) in the month once resources are available.
